Wiaam Badrakhan
Wiam Badrakhan is a prominent filmmaker from Homs who transformed her personal experience and the city’s siege into powerful visual storytelling. As director, writer, and cinematographer, she documented daily life in destroyed neighborhoods, preserving Homs’ memory through her lens.
She gained recognition with the documentary Silver Water: A Self-Portrait of Syria, co-directed with Osama Mohammed, which presents an intimate view of fear, hope, and human resilience during the siege. Wiam’s work highlights the humanity that endured amid war—children’s laughter, neighborly support, and the city’s determination to rebuild.
Her story embodies the strength of Homs’ people, turning suffering into art and ensuring that the city’s experience is remembered and shared with the world.
